The Technical Relief Agency (THW) of Bavaria is currently providing aid in Gohrischheide, supporting the local forces in catering and leadership tasks. Around 50 Bavarian THW personnel are on the ground, ensuring smooth and targeted operations in their role of leadership and coordination.
The THW, a federal operational organization carried by volunteers, is in high demand worldwide. It has been called upon by the federal government for disaster relief, and also provides technical and logistical tasks within the European Union's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations.
A deployment area has been set up in Gohrischheide to accommodate thousands of deployed forces from the fire department and other aid organizations. The high-performance pumps, loaded onto trucks and ready for deployment to Saxony at short notice, are a testament to the THW's readiness and commitment.
The special unit 'Water Damage/Pumps' of the THW is currently on standby, ready to join the efforts in Gohrischheide. Local associations from Bavaria, such as Selb, Mellrichstadt, Marktredwitz, Bayreuth, Kirchehrenbach, Forchheim, and Aschaffenburg, have already deployed personnel to support the relief efforts.
In addition to the 'Water Damage/Pumps' unit, the THW's CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) reconnaissance platoon of the district Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge is also on standby. This unit, consisting of three CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, will be supplemented by a measurement control component, ready to deploy to Saxony when needed.
