Guide on Obtaining Mounts in Grounded 2 and Operating Buggies

In the exciting world of Grounded 2, players have a new way to explore Brookhollow Park - by riding Buggies! These allied NPC insects can offer a significant speed boost and even help in combat. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to obtain and ride these fascinating Buggies.

Unlocking the Buggy Feature

To start your Buggy journey, you'll need to progress through the main story until you complete the Missed Connection questline. This quest leads you into an anthill where you find the body of an Ominent employee. Completing this quest unlocks the ability to buy the Hatchery blueprints from the Science Shop at the Ranger Station for 500 Science Points.

Building the Hatchery

With the blueprints in hand, you can now gather materials to build the Hatchery:

  • Weed Stems x6
  • Acorn Top x1
  • Acorn Shell x5
  • Mite Fuzz x5

These materials are common in the park. Mites can be found near the Snackbar Ranger Park entrance, Acorns can be found between Snackbar and Entrance areas, Weed Stems can be harvested from dandelions (which can be harvested early) or hardy weeds (requiring an upgraded axe), and Mite Fuzz can be found on Mites.

Finding Bug Eggs

There are multiple types of Buggies planned for the game, with different options for mounts. Two confirmed Bug Mounts are:

  1. Red Soldier Ant: Found early in the anthill area after the Missed Connection quest. This is your first mount and relatively accessible.
  2. Orb Weaver Spider: Found later in the game, located in areas with spider webs. This mount unlocks additional traversal and combat abilities, such as crossing webs and scaring off enemies.

Hatching the Egg and Crafting a Saddle

Insert the egg into the Hatchery. You will also need to craft a saddle for your Buggy using materials unlocked via Science Shop blueprints. Once the egg hatches, you gain your rideable mount.

Riding and Using Abilities

These mounts have unique abilities:

  • Red Soldier Ant can chew through roots and help in combat.
  • Orb Weaver Spider can cross webs and scare certain enemies, making exploration easier.

Potential Release Dates for New Mounts

  • The Orb Weaver Spider mount is already available in the game’s early access version, as of late July 2025.
  • Additional bug mounts are planned but not yet revealed; the game is still uncovering secrets regarding new bugs and mounts.

In summary, to get and ride bug mounts in Grounded 2, you progress through quests to unlock the Hatchery, then collect specific bug eggs to hatch and ride the bugs. The Red Soldier Ant is the first mount, while the Orb Weaver Spider is a later unlock currently available in early access, with more mounts expected as the game develops.

When dismissed, the Buggy is stored in the Ant Hill. Buggies can carry larger objects such as Weed Stems and Grass Planks. The Hatchery and other components require materials such as Acorn Shells, Weed Stem, Clover Leaf, Crude Rope, Mite Fuzz, Grub Hide, and Sprigs.

So, gear up and get ready to explore Brookhollow Park in a whole new way with Buggies by your side!
