Heidekreis Aims for Climate Neutrality by 2050 with New Energy Efficiency Plan
Heidekreis is set to adopt a comprehensive climate protection concept in December, aiming to achieve climate neutrality. This comes as residents in the region consume more energy per capita than the national average, highlighting the need for change.
Dr. Theresa Weinsziehr heads the energy efficiency network in Heidekreis, working towards optimizing buildings for energy efficiency. Despite climate change no longer being the top public concern, local initiatives persist. The 'Climate Forum' continues to discuss and address climate protection.
Traffic is the primary source of emissions in Heidekreis, with highways 7 and 27 being particularly affected. The upcoming climate protection concept aims to reduce energy consumption by 1.6% through a mobility transition and heat generation through electricity. ARD science journalist Thomas Ranft stresses the urgency of tackling climate change, emphasizing the role of fossil fuel reduction.
Heidekreis has made strides in its energy transition, tripling renewable energy generation expansion in the past decade and achieving savings of 7% since 2018. With the support of Stadtwerke Soltau GmbH & Co. KG and other local stakeholders, the region is poised to adopt a robust climate protection concept, targeting climate neutrality.
