The city of Rostock is gearing up for a significant change in its public transportation system, as the new TINA trams are set to commence service by the end of the year. These modern trams, named Total Integrated Low-Floor Drive (TINA), are expected to serve the city for the next 30 years.

The TINA trams have undergone extensive testing, including type approval tests and brake tests, to ensure they meet the highest safety standards. These new additions to Rostock's fleet boast several features designed for comfort and convenience, such as USB charging ports, large panoramic windows, digital passenger information systems, and cashless fare machines. In the future, they will also offer WLAN connectivity.

The interior of the TINA trams is designed with practicality in mind. The seats are made of wood with padded seat surfaces, making them easier to clean and disinfect. The distance between the seats and the space in the aisles is more spacious, providing a comfortable ride for passengers. The trams can accommodate up to 216 passengers, with 75 seats.

Interested individuals can get a first glimpse of the new TINA tram at the Discovery Day event on September 20th at the RSAG depot on Hamburger Straße. Details about who will offer the opportunity for a first-hand look are not available at this time.

The city of Gera has also recently decided on the TINA model, making Rostock the fourth city to opt for this type of tram. Swiss manufacturer Stadler has sold a total of 206 vehicles of this model. The RSAG placed its latest large order for new trams in June 2022, marking the first large order of new trams for the RSAG since the 1990s. In total, the RSAG has ordered 29 TINA trams from Stadler, with an investment amount of 105 million euros.

Three TINA trams have already arrived at the RSAG depot, and the first one is expected to run by the end of the year, pending street approval. The first TINA trams went to Darmstadt and have been in operation for nearly two years. Notably, these trams are equipped with a collision avoidance system that intervenes independently in case of emergency and automatically brakes to prevent possible collisions.

With these new TINA trams, Rostock is embarking on a 30-year journey of modern and efficient public transportation. Stay tuned for more updates on the TINA trams' debut in Rostock.
