Google's Gemini Homepage Redesign: A Simplified AI Experience

Google has initiated a wide rollout of a Gemini homepage redesign on the web, and the update is gradually making its way to Android and iOS devices. This redesign aims to streamline the AI experience by introducing a new "Tools" menu and a centered prompt bar.

The new "Tools" menu centralizes various AI features such as Videos with Veo, Deep Think, Deep Research, Canvas, Images with Imagen, and Guided Learning. This consolidation results in a cleaner, more streamlined interface with quick access to Google AI tools. On Android, the redesign implements a "Tools bottom sheet" accessible via an icon near the '+' button, removing clutter and improving clarity with simplified labels (Write, Build, Research) and sample prompts designed to showcase Gemini’s creative and analytical capabilities.

The centered prompt bar on the web version (previously docked at the bottom) now features a new row of suggested prompts like Write, Build, Deep Research, Create Image, and Create Video for quick user access. On mobile web and Android/iOS, the prompt bar remains at the bottom, but the suggested prompt row is immediately below the greeting. The "Hello" greeting is now just above the field in the new design.

In the mobile version, the prompt bar retains its bottom docking, with the suggested prompt row appearing directly beneath the greeting. This layout resembles Google Search in its simplicity and ease of use.

Google is also introducing a new four-color glow for Gemini on Wear OS, replacing the older blue-purple glow. The initial colors of the four-color glow are blue, red, yellow, and green, which later switch to a light blue.

In summary, the Gemini redesign and feature consolidation are part of Google's broader effort to enhance Gemini’s usability and consistency across platforms. This redesign aims to make the AI experience more accessible and efficient, with a cleaner interface and quick access to various tools. Stay tuned for further updates such as Gemini Live’s expanded capabilities on Android and iOS.
