Honda unveils blueprint for design, advanced driver assistance system, electric vehicles, efficiency optimization, and technology development
Honda Unveils Flagship EV Series, the Honda 0 Series, Embracing "Thin, Light, and Wise" Philosophy
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of its new EV series, the Honda 0 Series, at the "Honda 0 Tech Meeting 2024." This flagship series, set to be introduced globally in 2026, is centered around Honda's "Thin, Light, and Wise" philosophy.
The Honda 0 Series is designed to deliver world-class electricity efficiency, sporty driving performance unique to Honda, and high driving stability, all achieved through a new body rigidity management system. The new EV platform includes a thin battery pack, a compact e-Axle, and a downsized inverter, enabling a low center of gravity and sporty driving.
One of the key technologies in the Honda 0 Series is the electric powertrain efficiency. High-density battery packs and efficient e-Axles are utilized for space and weight reduction, enabling aerodynamic design and longer range with less battery capacity. Fast charging is significantly improved, with 15% to 80% charging times reduced to approximately 10–15 minutes.
Honda has also made strides in all-solid-state battery production. An independent demonstration production line for all-solid-state batteries aimed for mass production has been developed to enhance energy density, durability, and charging speed.
In terms of safety and autonomy, the Honda 0 Series incorporates next-generation AI technologies developed with Helm.ai. These AI technologies enable handling of rare or complex situations like obstacles or sudden road changes, advancing Level 3 to Level 4 autonomous capabilities.
The series also features the ASIMO OS—Intelligent Vehicle Operating System. This proprietary Honda OS provides ultra-personalized driving experiences by adapting to user behavior and environmental conditions while integrating the AI-driven ADAS and cooperative intelligence technologies.
Cooperative Intelligence (CI) micro-mobility technologies are another highlight. These technologies interpret surroundings through sensors and cameras instead of relying solely on maps, adapting to local road and traffic conditions. CI also allows the AI to understand human behavior and execute autonomous decisions like yielding or obstacle avoidance in a human-like manner.
The Honda 0 Series emphasizes aerodynamic, low-hood styling combined with lightweight sporty agility and smart software-driven technology to enhance efficiency, space usability, and pleasure in driving. The concept models in the series have received recognition such as the Red Dot Best of the Best 2024 for design excellence.
Honda will also utilize digital user experience (UX) technologies to offer new and inspiring EV-based mobility experiences, minimizing user stress and maximizing driving and in-vehicle enjoyment. The company will create original software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and make the vehicles themselves wiser, developing its original vehicle OS and striving to offer new mobility experiences to customers.
Honda plans to launch a total of seven Honda 0 Series models globally by 2030, including small-, medium-, and large-size models. The company plans to launch a production model of the Saloon in 2026, which will be close to the Saloon concept model and positioned as the flagship model of the Honda 0 Series.
With the Honda 0 Series, Honda is demonstrating its commitment to combining next-generation battery technology, advanced AI for safety and autonomy, and sleek, efficient design to create a smart, efficient, and adaptive EV flagship series.
