Hyundai Mobis Revolutionizes EV Glove Box with Spacious, User-Friendly Design
Hyundai Mobis, a leading automotive parts supplier, has innovated the glove box for electric vehicles (EVs). The new design, developed from an in-house idea contest, is now in mass production.
The traditional glove box, designed for internal combustion engine vehicles, had a capacity of around 5.5L. Hyundai Mobis has expanded this to over 8L for EVs, thanks to the additional passenger space in these news vehicles.
The new glove box, pioneered by Hyundai Mobis, features a 'Parabolic Motion' opening inspired by aircraft overhead bins. This design allows for easier item retrieval and insertion, and reduces the risk of knee collision when opened. The innovative design is currently used in Kia's large electric SUV, the EV9.
Choi Jae-seob, Head of Trim Module Engineering Sector at Hyundai Mobis, highlighted the importance of reinterpreting passenger space for future mobility. The company has fostered a culture of voluntary and creative R&D, accumulating over 3,200 ideas to date.
Hyundai Mobis' new glove box design, tailored for electric vehicles, offers expanded capacity and user-friendly features. This innovation demonstrates the company's commitment to reinterpreting passenger space for future mobility.
