Hyundai Starts Talegaon Plant Production, Boosts India Capacity to 1.074M Units by 2028
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has initiated passenger vehicle production at its Talegaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion plans. The plant, acquired from General Motors in January 2024, has begun rolling out the new-generation Venue SUV.
The Talegaon plant, with an existing annual capacity of 130,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines, is set for a major upgrade. Hyundai has announced an enhanced investment of ₹11,000 crore, up from the initial ₹7,000 crore commitment. This investment, a 57% increase, will expand the plant's annual vehicle capacity to 250,000 units by 2028. The upgrade includes installation of a seventh-generation paint shop and high-level automation systems, preparing the plant for electric vehicle production.
HMIL invested ₹6,000 crore in 2023-24 to upgrade the Talegaon plant to Hyundai's global manufacturing standards. Engine production at the plant commenced on 16 June 2025, with vehicle manufacturing operations expected to start in the third quarter of FY26.
Once fully operational, Hyundai's total Indian capacity will reach approximately 1.074 million units per annum by 2028, solidifying the company's position in the Indian automotive market.
