Iconic Sci-Fi Bikini Is Now Up for Sale
In a daring display of auction house audacity, the iconic gold bikini worn by Princess Leia in the 1983 Star Wars classic, Return of the Jedi, is hitting the auction block once more. This time, it's at Heritage Auctions, with a starting bid set at a whopping $30,000.
The costume, in all its infamous glory, was created by ILM chief sculptor, Richard Miller, in collaboration with costume designer Nilo Rodis-Jamero. It includes a rigid resin bikini bra, bikini plates, hip rings, an armlet, and a bracelet – each painstakingly crafted for the rebellious Princess's captive ordeal at the hands of Jabba the Hutt.
Interestingly, the bikini bra is the early version of the costume, sporting an eye hook repair and glue residue from attempts to improve Leia's comfort.
