India Launches Quantum Computing Lab with AWS to Drive Research
The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched a quantum computing applications lab in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The lab, a significant step in India's science and technology journey, aims to accelerate research and enable new discoveries.
The lab will provide access to a quantum computing development environment, aligned with the government's science and technology priorities. Select applicants will gain access to quantum computing hardware, simulators, and programming tools via Amazon Braket. AWS will host and support the lab.
Quantum computing has the potential to solve complex computational problems and drive breakthroughs in various fields. The lab will offer quantum computing as a service to government ministries, researchers, scientists, academia, and developers. It will also identify and publish quantum computing problem statements for experimentation.
Ajay Sawhney, Secretary, MeitY, and Max Peterson, Vice President, AWS, both expressed enthusiasm about the lab's potential. They believe it will make quantum computing more accessible to scientists and researchers, fostering innovation and progress in the field.
