Indian Car Buyers Embrace Tech-Rich EVs: VinFast's VF 6 and VF 7 Lead the Way
Indian car buyers are shifting their focus from price and fuel costs to technology and quality, with electric vehicles (EVs) now seen as smart driving companions rather than just cost-effective or eco-friendly options. This change is evident in the growing popularity of affordable premium electric SUVs like VinFast's VF 6 and VF 7, manufactured specifically for the Indian market.
VinFast, a Vietnamese company, launched the VF 6 and VF 7 in India in September/October 2025, produced at their new plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. These models are designed to withstand Indian road conditions and cater to family needs. They offer certified ranges of up to 468 km and 532 km respectively, with rapid charging capabilities - a 10 to 70 percent charge in about 25 minutes.
The VF 6 and VF 7 come packed with extensive safety features and advanced connectivity, appealing to Indian families and young professionals who appreciate clean air cabins and modern design. A man in Delhi, after experiencing a new electric SUV, changed his opinion about EVs, now appreciating their ability to anticipate needs, protect in traffic, and ease long commutes. This shift in perception is reflected in the growing EV sales in India, which increased by 53 percent in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, making up about 2.5 percent of passenger vehicle sales in 2024. Price-conscious buyers find these VinFast models offer excellent value without compromising on global conveniences.
Indian car buyers are embracing electric vehicles for their technology and features, with VinFast's VF 6 and VF 7 serving as prime examples. As EV sales continue to grow, Indian manufacturers and importers are expected to introduce more models to meet this increasing demand for tech-rich, eco-friendly vehicles.
