Instagram Introduces Option for Shy Users: Share Content Without Drawing Attention

Instagram's shaking things up for the shy and creative souls! They've announced new features that'll let you post clandestinely and rearrange your content like a boss.

Head of Meta-run Instagram, Adam Mosseri, spilled the beans in a press release on Thursday. He revealed that users will soon be able to drop a post on their page without blasting it to their followers' feeds. He also mentioned an upcoming grid rearrangement feature, empowering you to curate your profile like a pro.

"We hear creative expression can feel daunting, especially when posting to the feed," Mosseri said. "So, we're tossing around the idea of a 'quiet post' - a way to add content to your profile without it screaming at your followers' feeds. We're also throwing in grid rearrangement to give your content more flexibility and reduce the pressure," he added.

It's all about overcoming self-doubt and getting creative without worry. But exactly when these features will drop remains a mystery. Representatives from Meta didn't respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Another exciting update, "Test Reels," is already live. This feature lets you first share a reel with non-followers before showcasing it to your own peeps.

"We've picked up on creators saying this removes the guesswork about content performance," Mosseri said. "We're hoping Test Reels gives everyone a little more freedom to express themselves in a stress-free realm."

These updates come as Instagram users opt for a more private approach. They're posting less in their feeds, sharing more in Stories, and diving into private messages.

"Content posted publicly in feeds is dwindling across the industry because more content is being shared through Stories and private messages," Mosseri stated in May to Peter Kafka of Business Insider.

"With the new 'quiet post' feature, users can confidently add content to their profile without causing a commotion in their followers' feeds, proving that Instagram is not just a platform for social-media entertainment, but also a venue for personal, low-key expression of creativity."

"One can rearrange their content on the grid more freely, thanks to the upcoming grid rearrangement feature, showcasing tech-savvy prowess while maintaining the social-media profile appearance."
