Introducing AI Trustmarks from Sage to Boost Small Businesses' Reliance on AI Technology
In a groundbreaking move, Sage, a leading provider of business software, has developed an AI Trust Label - a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to boost transparency and accountability in AI-powered business tools.
This label will be rolled out across selected AI-driven products in the UK and US this year, aiming to address the concerns of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) who, while recognising the benefits of AI, have yet to fully embrace the technology due to trust-related issues.
According to Sage's research, a direct correlation exists between trust and AI adoption among SMBs. A staggering 43% of these businesses express low trust in companies building AI tools, and only 48% of those who don't trust AI actively use it in their operations.
The AI Trust Label is designed to bridge this gap by providing clear, accessible information about AI functions across Sage products. It explains how customer data is used, safeguards to prevent bias and harm, and systems to monitor accuracy and ethical performance.
The label is based on direct feedback from SMBs and focuses on key trust indicators such as compliance with privacy and data regulations. It also demonstrates how the AI model was trained, showing the datasets and domain-specific information it incorporates. Moreover, it outlines measures to ensure the model's accuracy and outlines safeguards to protect data privacy and security.
Aaron Harris, Chief Technology Officer at Sage, emphasised the importance of the AI Trust Label, stating, "Businesses deserve to know how AI works, how their data is used, and what safeguards are in place." He further added that the label is essential for AI to truly empower SMBs.
Sage is also exploring opportunities to share its AI Trust Label framework more widely, calling for collaboration between industry and government to create a transparent, certified AI labeling system. This move is a response to the growing need for transparency in AI usage.
Customers will see the label within the product experience and have access to additional details via Sage's Trust & Security Hub. The AI Trust Label is a significant step forward in Sage's commitment to responsible and governed AI use in business software, promoting trust not only among employees but also customers, by making clear what the AI does, how reliable it is, and what protections are in place.
