Investment worth £5.4M propels Spaceflux's expansion within the realm of space domain awareness

London-Based Spaceflux Secures £5.4 Million Seed Funding for Space Surveillance and Tracking

Spaceflux, a groundbreaking London-based company, has successfully closed a £5.4 million seed funding round, marking a significant milestone in its mission to provide innovative space situational awareness (SSA) solutions. The investment round was co-led by the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S), Foresight Group, and Blackfinch Ventures, and includes backing from both the UK Space Agency and MOD (Defence & Security Seed - D2S).

Founded in 2022, Spaceflux has quickly emerged as a key player in the space surveillance and tracking domain. The company is now fully focused on advancing global efforts to reduce orbital congestion and enhance space safety through independently verified, AI-driven tracking solutions.

Spaceflux's ground-based optical sensors monitor satellites and debris across all orbits, using both visible and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) imaging. This hybrid imaging capability enables detection and characterization of objects even in daylight, expanding observation from night-only to true 24/7 continuous coverage of satellites and debris.

The company's Cortex platform processes data from sensors to track object trajectories, classify satellites versus debris, and provide early warning alerts for collision risk. AI enhances accuracy and speed, improving situational awareness amid increasing orbital congestion and the proliferation of untracked debris.

Kimberley Hay, Ventures Director at Blackfinch, is impressed with Spaceflux's collective experience and expertise in space safety. Rubina Singh, Senior Investment Manager at Foresight Group, is equally enthusiastic about backing the Spaceflux team as they expand their technology into new markets.

The new funding will enable Spaceflux to scale its global sensor network, enhance its Cortex analytics platform, and expand delivery of its tracking services. This expansion will directly address challenges of orbital congestion and untracked debris by enabling continuous, accurate surveillance and collision risk mitigation.

Spaceflux's technology offers critical insights to help monitor and safeguard orbital assets, supporting both national security and the wider commercial ecosystem. The company is a trusted partner of the UK Ministry of Defence and the UK Space Agency, providing critical tracking services initially focused on the geostationary orbit but now expanding globally to serve satellite operators, insurers, and government agencies worldwide.

Enhanced SSA is vital to protect satellite infrastructure that underpins navigation, communication, and Earth observation. Disruption could have severe economic consequences—for instance, a UK satellite navigation outage lasting one week is estimated to cost the economy £7.6 billion. Spaceflux’s expanded SSA capabilities aim to reduce such risks and enable a safer, more sustainable space environment for present and future generations.

As Spaceflux pushes forward innovative space situational awareness technologies, it will fast-track the growth of its proprietary global telescope network. This expansion will contribute significantly to mitigating risks of collisions and managing orbital traffic more effectively, protecting valuable space assets and helping reduce the creation of new debris fields from potential collisions.

The investment underscores the importance of Spaceflux's role in safeguarding space assets we all rely on, such as satellites. With this funding, Spaceflux is now better equipped to address the growing need for enhanced commercial and sovereign space surveillance, providing the infrastructure, data, and decision-making tools essential for satellite protection and long-term space sustainability.
