L&T Secures $700M Sustainability-Linked Trade Facility for Nuclear Reactor Components
Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T Limited), a prominent player in nuclear reactor components and research reactors, has secured a sustainability-linked trade facility worth approximately 700 million USD. The company is involved in various aspects of nuclear power plant construction and equipment supply.
L&T Limited's heavy engineering division produces crucial components for nuclear and research reactors, such as steam generators, reactor vessels, end shields, calandrias, and control rod drive mechanisms. The company is currently involved in civil and mechanical construction work for the Kudankulam units 5 and 6.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is another key player, designing, manufacturing, and supplying critical equipment for nuclear reactors. Their offerings include steam generators, reactor headers, turbines, and other essential components. BHEL serves multiple sectors, including power generation, electricity transmission, industrial manufacturing, transportation, renewable energy, oil and gas, and defense.
Supporting these efforts are other Indian companies. MTAR Technologies Limited manufactures critical parts for nuclear reactors, such as fuel machining heads, drive mechanisms, and coolant channel assemblies. Walchandnagar Industries Limited supplies calandrias, heat exchangers, end shields, and dump tanks for PHWRs and PFBRs. Sealmatic India Limited, the only mechanical seal manufacturer in India certified with ISO 19443 for nuclear applications, ensures the safety and efficiency of these reactors.
The collaboration and expertise of these companies are vital for India's nuclear power program. They contribute to the design, manufacture, and supply of critical equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of nuclear reactors. Their efforts support the country's energy security and sustainability goals.
