Li Auto, a Chinese electric vehicle company, has reported a decline in vehicle deliveries for the second consecutive month in July, marking a significant setback for the company. The main factors contributing to this downturn are the underperformance of its L-series extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) and temporary disruptions from upgrading its sales system.

The L-series models, which include the L6, L7, L8, and L9, have seen sharp year-on-year and month-on-month declines. For instance, July 2025 sales for the Li L6 decreased 40.34% year-over-year and nearly 10% from June, making it the largest contributor to the decline given it accounted for nearly half (48.26%) of total deliveries.

Li Auto had to lower its second-quarter 2025 delivery guidance significantly, from an expected 123,000-128,000 vehicles down to just 108,000, citing temporary impacts from upgrading its sales system. Despite this, the company saw some growth in other segments, such as the Li Mega MPV, which grew 330% year-over-year in July. However, this growth was not enough to offset the sharp declines in the L-series models.

The launch of the new pure electric Li i8 SUV came late in July with deliveries starting in late August, meaning it didn't impact July sales numbers and thus could not yet help reverse the downtrend. As of now, Li Auto offers six models: the Li L6, Li L7, Li L8, Li L9, Li Mega, and the newly launched Li i8. Deliveries of the Li i8 are scheduled to begin on August 20.

The Onvo L90, a large electric SUV from Li Auto's sub-brand, began deliveries today. The Onvo L90 starts at a lower price of RMB 265,800, including an 85-kWh battery pack. As of the end of July, Li Auto had delivered a total of 1,368,541 vehicles since its inception.

Li Auto operates 527 service centers in 222 cities and 3,028 supercharging stations in China, equipped with 16,671 charging stalls. As of July 31, Li Auto operates 535 retail stores in 153 cities. The exchange rate is $1 = RMB 7.2135, which means the Onvo L90's price is approximately $36,300.

Li Auto's year-to-date deliveries are below the same period last year, a trend that the company will aim to reverse in the coming months. The company's stock (NASDAQ: LI) has been affected by this decline, and investors will be closely watching the company's performance in the coming quarters.
