Living my profession as an earbud tester, here's my initial review of the newly released Nothing Ear (3).

The Nothing Ear (3) has recently been unveiled, joining the ranks of the Nothing Phone (3) and Nothing Headphone (1) in the brand's growing product lineup. Led by Carl Pei, a former employee of OnePlus, Nothing has been popular in the earbuds market for its innovative design language and community-led approach.

The Nothing Ear (3) earbuds come with a redesigned aluminium-topped base panel on the case, adding a touch of metallic construction that gives a feeling of quality. However, early testing has shown that the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) performance of the Nothing Ear (3) does not impress as much as its predecessor, the Nothing Ear (2).

In terms of ANC, the Nothing Ear (3) uses a multi-channel AI environmental noise-cancellation system, which is said to be the same as the Adaptive ANC from the Nothing Headphone (1). The system is also associated with a software update developed in collaboration with Audiodo, a company that provides adaptive noise-cancelling technology and personalized sound profiles. It is hoped that this update can improve the ANC performance.

The Nothing Ear (3) retails for £/€/US$179, which is a higher price point compared to previous models. The earbuds also feature a new Talk button and the Super Mic, which shows promise but has encountered issues with some apps.

Despite the initial setbacks, it is worth noting that the Nothing Ear (3) is the latest product from the brand, and there is optimism that the performance of the ANC can be improved with a software update. As with any new product, it will take time for the Nothing Ear (3) to find its footing in the competitive earbuds market.
