London Music School Employs 20 Audix Microphones for Film Score Recordings in the Capital City

In the heart of London, the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama has recently expanded its audio equipment arsenal with the addition of 20 Audix A231 large diaphragm condenser microphones and a DP5A 5-piece professional drum microphone kit.

This decision was made in preparation for the launch of the school's Alumni Session Orchestra, an initiative aimed at providing full film tracking at proper studio specifications for the film composition students. The Audix microphones are indispensable for the work being done in the 7.1.4 Atmos mixing studio, providing pre-approved masters to Universal Music.

Each captured channel with AUDIX microphones is intended to be played back through a corresponding speaker in a 7.1.4 configuration, creating a immersive and enveloping soundscape for the listener. The most exciting application of the AUDIX microphones at Guildhall is in their 7.1.4 Atmos mixing studio, which was tuned and approved by Dolby.

The AUDIX A231 microphones are valued for their ease of use, allowing for quick setup for multiple performances a day. This feature was a significant factor in the school's decision to go with AUDIX, as the microphones are used for various types of audio capture, including jazz festivals, opera, student recitals, and more.

Mimi Hemchaoui, audio operations manager, commented that the A231 microphones have great off-axis rejection, reducing phasing issues even with multiple mics in the same space. Julian Hepple, former Prince FOH engineer and now Guildhall's head of recording and AV, has relied on various AUDIX microphones for his work with Anoushka Shankar, Robert Glasper, and others.

The Audix A231 microphones enable 11-point Atmos recordings of an orchestra using a PCMA 3D Array. With their high sensitivity and low noise, wide frequency response, natural sound reproduction, large diaphragm design, and multiple polar patterns, these microphones offer several benefits relevant to film scoring and music production.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, established in 1880, offers training in classical music, jazz, drama, and production arts. The school's investment in high-quality audio equipment like the Audix A231 microphones is a testament to its commitment to providing students with the best tools for their craft.

The Audix A231 microphones are not only crucial for the school's recently established 7.1.4 Atmos mixing studio, but also for various events such as jazz festivals, opera, and student recitals, thanks to their versatility and high-quality sound features. With the addition of these microphones, the school aims to provide advanced technology like 11-point Atmos recordings for film composition students, featuring gadgets like the Audix A231 microphones and drum kits, thus significantly enhancing their film scoring and music production capabilities.
