According to a recent study, 78% of doctors perceive artificial intelligence (AI) as an opportunity for the medical field, with 15% already incorporating AI into their daily practices. In medical care centers and practices, AI is employed for tasks like diagnostic support and practice management, while those working in clinics leverage AI for imaging evaluation.

Ralf Wintergerst, President of Bitkom, explains the potential advantages of AI: "AI has the power to revolutionize medical care, particularly in preventive medicine and therapy. It can improve accuracy, speed up diagnostics, and streamline administrative tasks, freeing up more time for direct patient care."

The study also revealed that 68% of doctors are open to embracing electronic patient records (EPRs). The primary benefits expected are the elimination of duplicate examinations, the ability to make quicker diagnoses through access to a patient's medical history, and the prevention of medication interactions.

Despite this optimism, 77% of respondents admitted to feeling unprepared for the use of EPRs. Implemented nationwide last April, their use remains voluntary for now, with mandatory use slated for October 1, 2025. Patients can opt out.
