Mass manufacturing of the Tai 7 SUV by BYD Fang Cheng Bao is underway, with a scheduled debut in Q4.
Fang Cheng Bao Unveils the Tai 7 Hybrid SUV
Fang Cheng Bao, the sub-brand of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, has announced the launch of its new Tai series product line, with the Tai 7 hybrid SUV as its flagship model. This marks the brand's second major product line, following the successful Bao series.
The Tai 7 is designed with a modern and robust exterior, featuring a high bonnet line, a boxy form factor, large bumpers, and rectangular headlights. It bears a resemblance to the L663 Land Rover Defender in terms of design cues. The SUV boasts the largest interior space among Fang Cheng Bao's existing products, making it an ideal choice for families.
Under the hood, the Tai 7 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 115 kW (154 hp), supplemented by two e-motors. The front motor, TZ210XYC, delivers a peak power of 160 kW (215 hp), while the rear motor, TZ200XSBN, offers a peak power of 200 kW (268 hp). The Tai 7 utilizes the DMS plug-in hybrid system, integrating the petrol engine with electric motors for optimal performance.
In terms of electric range, the Tai 7 offers two battery options. The entry-level model is equipped with a 26.6 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of 100-105 km on electric power alone, with a fuel consumption of 6.3 liters per 100 km. The top-tier model features a 35.6 kWh LFP battery, extending the electric range to 130 km, and slightly increasing fuel consumption to 6.4 L/100km.
The interior of the Tai 7 is as impressive as its exterior. It features a comfortable 5-seat cabin, with options for leather and premium materials. The infotainment system is controlled by a large floating central touchscreen, and the multi-function steering wheel features a sporty flat-bottom design. The interior also includes an advanced infotainment system with smart connectivity features and an optional drone integration.
Safety is a top priority for Fang Cheng Bao, and the Tai 7 comes equipped with an intelligent "God’s Eye" driving assistance system utilizing LiDAR technology for enhanced safety features. The SUV will also be available in versions with and without LiDAR.
Fang Cheng Bao has produced the first mass-produced unit of the Tai 7, and the SUV is scheduled for official launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. The brand has already made significant strides this year, selling a record 18,903 vehicles in June, representing a year-on-year increase of 605.34 percent and a month-on-month increase of 50.12 percent.
