Meta introduces "Glasses of the Future": Initial Responses
In a significant leap forward for wearable technology, Meta Platforms has announced the release of the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2). This latest iteration of smart glasses promises a host of improvements, making them a compelling choice for tech enthusiasts and casual users alike.
One of the standout features of the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) is the Conversation Focus. Powered by AI, these glasses are designed to amplify the voice of the person you're speaking to, ensuring clear communication even in noisy environments.
The display on the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) supports full-color imaging and functions effectively both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, it boasts Ultra HD 3K video recording capabilities, allowing you to capture high-quality visuals at the touch of a button.
Battery life is another area where the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) excels. Offering twice the battery life compared to its predecessor, it promises a maximum usage time of eight hours. This extended battery life means fewer charging breaks throughout the day, making these smart glasses a practical choice for everyday use.
Meta is also working on improving the live AI feature to operate continuously without the need for a command word. Currently, the live AI is available for about an hour or two, but the company aims to extend this duration in future updates.
The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) is now available for purchase on meta.com and ray-ban.com for $379 (approximately 205,000 tenge). It's worth noting that opinions on the Meta Ray-Ban Display's price are divided. While some believe it's worth the investment, others feel that the company still has work to do to justify the cost.
Interestingly, the Meta Vanguard smart glasses model, manufactured by Meta Platforms in collaboration with eyewear company EssilorLuxottica, which owns the Oakley brand, is also part of the Meta family.
During a recent demonstration, Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, experienced technical difficulties with the neural bracelet designed for controlling the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. The issue was reportedly due to Wi-Fi problems, indicating that there's still room for improvement in this area.
Despite these minor hiccups, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) represents a significant step forward in the realm of smart glasses. With its impressive features and continuous improvements, it's poised to redefine how we interact with technology on a daily basis.
