Mexico's Leading Virtual Production Studio Shifts to Brompton Technology
In a significant stride for the Mexican entertainment industry, Simplemente Virtual Production Studio has recently unveiled an upgraded LED stage at Estudios Churubusco. This state-of-the-art facility, a collaborative project with Amazon Studios, is set to redefine virtual production capabilities in Mexico City and beyond.
The upgraded stage leverages Brompton Technology’s advanced LED processing, delivering a highly immersive visual experience with true-to-life colour accuracy and dynamic range. This makes it ideal for virtual production, broadcast, and live events. The stage is categorised as an “LED Volume,” a hallmark of next-generation virtual production studios, using high-resolution LED walls to recreate environments in real time.
The LED volume spans 200 square metres and features a 270° curved LED wall, providing nearly five times the resolution of a 4K screen. This level of detail and coverage allows for expansive, lifelike virtual environments and supports multi-camera shoots with minimal visual seams. The stage is built using AOTO RM2.3 LED panels, integrated with Brompton’s processing solutions.
The integration of the art department and set builders to extend the volume with physical set pieces adds to the realism of the production. The use of virtual production allowed Simplemente to recreate the city in the correct period and depict large-scale destruction with lifelike accuracy.
This upgrade comes at an opportune time, as Simplemente recently wrapped shooting two seasons back-to-back of the upcoming Amazon Prime original series, "Cada Minuto Cuenta" (Every Minute Counts), which centres on the catastrophic 1985 earthquake that struck Mexico City, and the subsequent rescue attempts and survival stories.
Adam Callaway, global lead for virtual production and broadcast at Brompton Technology, expressed his support for Simplemente's top-tier virtual production in the Mexican market. He noted that the democratisation of virtual production has been rewarding, allowing various people to try it for the first time.
Simplemente offers production services, integration, training, and rentals. The studio, founded by Monica Reina and Rune Hansen in 2000, has always been early adopters of Pro AV technology. The studio's LED stage has been used for a variety of productions, including prestige television, educational training, and commercials.
The presidential debate on April 28, 2024, which was filmed on the LED stage, drew a record-breaking 16-plus million viewers. The stage also served as a venue for multiple commercials and a reality game show series.
With this upgraded LED stage, Simplemente continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in virtual production, offering filmmakers and content creators in Mexico City access to world-class, immersive, and efficient production environments. The stage's key benefits include real-time cinematography, creative flexibility, efficiency, cost savings, and industry endorsement. Mexico City is now at the forefront of virtual production in Latin America, attracting international projects and elevating local creative output.
