Xbox and Microsoft have granted approval for a fan-made game fusion: Vampire Survivors meets Halo, delivering an enthralling experience complete with the iconic Master Chief character, and I'm thoroughly enjoying every moment of it.

Let's dive into the wild world of fan-made video games! One such project that's caused quite a stir is Spartan Survivors, a spin-off of the smash-hit roguelike Vampire Survivors, but with a Halo twist. This passion project, developed by two (compadres), Juan Guillot "JuanGGZ" Gonzalez, and Gaetan Dezeiraud under Bathrobe & Dezeiraud Games, was met with approval from none other than Halo Studios themselves.

At first glance, one may have expected these industry titans to shut things down with cease-and-desist orders. But, surprisingly, Halo Studios reached out to the duo, giving them the green light to keep building Spartan Survivors. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the developers expressed their gratitude, stating that the game's compliance with rules was essential to Halo Studios and Microsoft.

While playing Spartan Survivors, one can't help but notice the infectious mayhem of Vampire Survivors, blending randomized upgrades and bullet-hell antics. However, instead of taking down creatures of the night, you'll be annihilating Covenant and Flood aliens with iconic Halo weaponry. You can even choose to play as Master Chief or the Arbiter or other characters inspired by dedicated community members. Each level is reminiscent of missions from the legendary 2001 Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, with soundtrack favorites from the game supplementing the action.

The fan game has already been a blast, but the devs have even more up their sleeves. Rumor has it that an update is in the works, featuring new in-game drops, boss enemies, and a fresh weapon, as well as bugfixes, UI enhancements, and support for weapon-specific pointers. After that, the duo plans to unleash Spartan Survivors on Steam, mobile, and Xbox, with a targeted 2025 release on the Xbox platform.

Although it seems the team might have hinted at a PS5 version of their unofficial game—which would indeed be hilarious—it was all in jest, as obtaining a dev kit for Sony's console is currently out of scope for this small project.

With Halo Studios and Microsoft supporting this fantastic little game, I wholeheartedly endorse giving it a go if you've got some spare time. Spartan Survivors is as addicting and exhilarating as its predecessor, offering full support for both keyboard and controller gameplay. So, lock and load and check it out right here, Spartan!
