Microsoft is granting free access to chat-based assistance for all Microsoft 365 users.

Microsoft has announced the integration of its AI chatbot, Copilot, into the Microsoft 365 suite as a free update. This update, which primarily affects enterprises and their employees who use Microsoft 365 applications such as Teams, Word, Outlook, and Excel, is set to provide AI-powered productivity enhancements and advanced data insights directly integrated with organizational data.

Copilot, now available in Microsoft 365 apps, is a secure, web-based AI chat that can answer questions, create documents, and analyze tables. It will appear in a sidebar when invoked, ready to assist with office tasks.

The free update of Copilot for Microsoft 365 will include the new language model GPT-5, published by OpenAI in early August. This advanced model is expected to improve the chatbot's capabilities significantly, enabling it to reason across all available data, such as documents, emails, and chats.

Copilot Chat, as it is called, recognizes content, understands what users are working on, and adjusts answers to the open file. This feature ensures that the assistance provided by Copilot is contextually relevant and tailored to the user's current task.

License holders of the 'Microsoft 365 Copilot' will have priority access to features like file uploads and image creation. They will also experience shorter response times and higher availability, even during peak usage times.

Earlier this year, Microsoft 365 personal customers also received Copilot, coinciding with a simultaneous price increase. Since then, Microsoft 365 personal subscriptions have cost 30% more, but they now include Copilot and AI image editing.

Existing customers who don't need AI services can switch to a classic subscription model that Microsoft continues to offer at the previous price.

Microsoft has also announced the integration of ChatGPT-5 into its ecosystem. This move is part of the tech giant's strategy to leverage advanced AI technology to enhance the productivity and efficiency of its users.

The integration of Copilot into the Microsoft 365 suite is expected to revolutionize the way users work, providing them with a powerful tool to streamline their office tasks and gain valuable insights from their data.
