Motility Software Solutions Hit by Ransomware, 766,000 Records Exposed

Motility Software Solutions, a leading dealership management software provider, has fallen victim to a ransomware attack on August 19, 2023. The incident may have exposed sensitive personal information of approximately 766,000 individuals. Motility is offering a year of complimentary credit and identity monitoring services, similar to those provided by services like Credit Karma, to those affected.

The attack encrypted parts of Motility's internal systems, potentially compromising sensitive customer data. This includes full names, contact details, birth dates, Social Security Numbers, and driver's license information. For some individuals, email addresses and customer portal credentials were also involved in the breach. Motility has engaged Dark Web monitoring services, similar to those offered by Experian, to detect and mitigate any circulation of the stolen data. Affected individuals are encouraged to review their credit reports and consider enabling fraud alerts or credit freezes, similar to the services provided by Medicare. This is not the first time Motility has faced such an incident. In 2021, Hitachi Payment Services, another organization, suffered a similar ransomware attack, potentially exposing the personal information of about 766,000 individuals.
