Munich Airport Debuts Bavaria's Biggest Electric Vehicle Charging Station
Munich Airport Opens Largest Electric Car Parking Facility in Bavaria
Munich Airport, a hub for innovation and renewable energy, has taken a significant step forward in promoting e-mobility. The airport has opened a new electric car charger facility in parking garage P44, located northwest of the LabCampus innovation center.
The new facility, Bavaria's largest electric charging park, boasts 275 charging points, providing charging capacity for over 1,440 electric vehicles. This pioneering project, which cost approximately 5.2 million EUR, is open to all electric vehicle technologies without rigid bans.
Power for the charging stations comes from photovoltaic systems on the roofs of both the P44 and P43 parking garages. These systems consist of 7,216 PV modules with a total maximum output of three megawatts.
The opening ceremony was attended by Bavarian Minister-President Dr. Markus Soeder, Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers, and other dignitaries. Speaking at the event, Dr. Soeder highlighted Bavaria's commitment to expanding e-mobility and renewable energies, aiming to triple the number of charging points by 2030.
Visitors can charge their vehicles at one of the 138 charging stations on Level 4 of the P44 parking garage. Each station has a nominal output of 11kW and a maximum output of up to 22kW.
Munich Airport's commitment to e-mobility and renewable energies is evident. The airport has been a strong supporter of state-of-the-art drive systems and is a gateway to these technologies. As of now, Bavaria has the most electric cars and the most charging points in Germany, a testament to the region's dedication to sustainable transportation.
Parking for electric cars at Munich Airport is now free of charge, making it an attractive option for travellers with electric vehicles. The airport's strategic location opposite the LabCampus innovation hub further cements its role as a hub for innovation and sustainability.
As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, Munich Airport is leading the way in Germany, demonstrating that e-mobility and renewable energies can be integrated seamlessly into everyday life.
