NASA's Moon-to-Mars Workshop Held by MBRSC in Dubai
UAE Hosts International Moon-to-Mars Architecture Workshop
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in Dubai played host to NASA's Moon-to-Mars Architecture Workshop on February 25 and 26. The event brought together international space agencies, including NASA, the French space agency CNES, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and others, to discuss the future of human space exploration.
The workshop aimed to align strategies, address capability gaps, and explore partnership opportunities for advancing deep space exploration. Participants engaged in high-level roundtables and technical sessions on foundational exploration capabilities, lunar mobility, power infrastructure, and logistics for future missions.
Representatives from MBRSC, including Amer AlSayegh AlGhaferi, Assistant Director General of the Aerospace Engineering Sector, and Adnan AlRais, Assistant Director General of Space Operations and Exploration Sector, were present at the event. Dr. Lori Glaze, NASA Acting Associate Administrator for Exploration Systems Development, also attended the workshop.
During the event, the agencies renewed their commitment to human space exploration, with a focus on advancing technological capabilities, enhancing mission readiness, and increasing scientific research for future Moon and Mars missions. The renewed commitment also involved increasing collaborative efforts, as evidenced by the close collaboration between MBRSC and NASA on lunar missions such as the Rashid Rover 2 and the Artemis program.
Dr. Glaze expressed her gratitude for the UAE's hospitality during the workshop and highlighted the collaborative spirit of the event. Adnan AlRais reiterated the importance of global partnerships, emphasizing the UAE's role in such collaborations.
However, no specific updates were provided on the Architecture Concept Review beyond those detailed by NASA during the event. Similarly, no new information was provided on the identified areas for future collaboration beyond those discussed during the event.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from participating agencies to work together towards the goal of human exploration of the Moon and Mars. Dr. Glaze closed the event by emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in the realm of deep space exploration.
