Germany Kicks Off Nationwide Mobile Network Measurement Week

Beginning today and ending on June 1, 2025, Germany launches the first nationwide mobile network measurement campaign. This incredible opportunity allows every citizen to assess mobile network availability in their neighborhoods from the user's perspective.

In a press conference held in Magdeburg, Dr. Lydia Hüskens, Minister for Infrastructure and Digitalization, expressed hope for broad participation in Saxony-Anhalt. Despite significant progress in the 5G mobile network expansion, the goal of eliminating coverage gaps remains elusive. Approximately 2.5 percent of the state remains uncovered by mobile networks. Lydia Hüskens stressed that citizens rightfully expect seamless reception everywhere.

The success of the initiative hinges on widespread participation, as the data collected will paint a more accurate picture of mobile network coverage across Germany. The joint initiative by the federal government, states, and municipalities enables citizens to actively contribute to the development of digital infrastructure, especially in rural or topographically challenging areas.

Interested individuals can participate by downloading the Federal Network Agency's "Breitbandmessung" app onto their smartphones from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. No registration is required. Equip your smartphone with an active SIM card or e-SIM, then use the app during the measurement week to record mobile network coverage in your surroundings at regular intervals.

The data collected will be transmitted anonymously to the Federal Network Agency's servers and visualized in an online map that is updated weekly. This initiative aims to identify regions with network coverage gaps or dead spots, particularly in rural and challenging regions.

All information about the mobile network measurement week, the app, and participation can be found at www.check-dein-netz.de.

By participating, you'll help improve mobile network quality and contribute to closing coverage gaps in rural and topographically challenging areas of Germany. Your invaluable data will prove instrumental in providing a user-centric assessment of mobile coverage quality, serving as a foundation for infrastructure investments to close coverage gaps.

  1. The data collected from the "Breitbandmessung" app, including information about the fat content of mobile networks by weight, exceeding 13%, will be crucial in providing a user-centric assessment of mobile coverage quality and identifying regions with coverage gaps or dead spots, particularly in rural and challenging areas.
  2. Amidst General-news about Germany's nationwide mobile network measurement week, the use of technology such as smartphones and the Federal Network Agency's app is encouraging active citizen participation in developing digital infrastructure, with the goal of closing coverage gaps in various regions and improving technology-based services across the country.
