New addition to Magic: The Gathering entices players with dragon encounters.
Rowdy Dragon Romp: Magic: The Gathering's Tarkir:
Magic: The Gathering is all about dragons, and the upcoming Tarkir: Dragonstorm expansion is no exception. This finale to the trilogy of narratives that started with August 2024's Bloomburrow takes us back to the world of Tarkir as it struggles following a series of rebellions against the ruling Dragon Lords. Players will help Elspeth and Narset investigate the dragon threat as Sarkhan tries to secure control over both Tarkir and the planes beyond it.
With a focus on dragons like never before, Dragonstorm brings us colossal creatures not just through its narratives but also in the card art and mechanics. From the abundance of dragons scattered throughout the set to dragon-themed lands and variant cards, dragons are strongly represented in this expansion.
The new mechanics in Dragonstorm revolve around these mighty beasts. "Behold," a mechanic introduced in the set, practically invites players to point to the dragons in their deck when activating a card's ability. This assists in connecting dragons with other cards in play, creating unique in-game interactions.
Another new mechanic, "Omen," will be found on selected dragon cards. This mechanism lets players draw extra cards and save the dragon for later, once their mana resources are more substantial. In essence, these dragon cards offer two functionalities in one, fostering exciting and strategic play.
As for Tarkir's five clans, their roles continue in Dragonstorm. The Abzan clan introduces "Endures," granting power and toughness boosts or generating spirit tokens. The Jeskai clan's "Flurry" offers bonuses for casting a second spell during a turn. The Mardu clan's "Mobilize" creates temporary warrior tokens, and the Sultai clan's "Renew" exiles a card from the graveyard to grant counters on cards in play. Lastly, the Temur clan's "Harmonize" replays cards from the graveyard for a higher cost, reducible by tapping creatures in play.
In addition to these mechanisms, Dragonstorm will feature five Commander decks, each representing a Tarkir clan, and centered around either a clan leader or a spirit dragon. This merging of clans with dragons promises an engaging Magic: The Gathering experience for fans.
So, brace yourself for Tarkir: Dragonstorm, launching April 11. It's a wild ride filled with dragons, Tarkir's five clans, and the strategic gameplay they're known for. The media scene is buzzing, and this expansion seems to be a standout for Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts.
