New endeavor in venture capitalism launched by previous leaders of 10T Holdings, concentrating on investments in digital assets.
Halo Capital, a newly launched venture capital firm, has made its entrance into the crypto industry with a focus on early-stage investments across the entire spectrum. The announcement was made to Bloomberg, marking the official launch of the firm.
The firm, co-founded by Daniel Howard and Bhavin Vaid, boasts a unique blend of expertise. Howard, son of British hedge fund billionaire Alan Howard, brings a background in computer science and artificial intelligence to the table, while Vaid, with previous stints at Goldman Sachs Group and Cerberus Capital Management, lends his financial acumen.
The partners of Halo Capital, numbering around 20 individuals, include company founders and research experts. However, their names are currently being kept private.
Halo Capital's investment strategy is expected to be informed by the founders' expertise, with a focus on tech, biotech, or other innovative startups. The firm aims to bring the mindset of growth investors to early-stage crypto projects.
The firm's investments so far reflect this focus, with Halo Capital having invested in Bitcoin-based stablecoin issuer Bima Labs during its $2.5 million seed round in July, and in Solana-based decentralised physical infrastructure network (DePIN), named Andrena, which recently raised $18 million.
Interestingly, neither Howard nor Vaid had significant experience in the crypto industry prior to launching Halo Capital. However, they have expressed that they aim to be value-added investors in the space, focusing on a generalist fund across the entire ecosystem.
The firm's approach to investing in early-stage crypto projects may be influenced by any potential biases from existing funds in the space based on their past investments. Vaid stated that Halo Capital's ability to take a differentiated and research-driven approach to investing will be vital.
Before joining Halo Capital, Vaid worked at 10T Holdings, a crypto-centric venture firm. This partnership suggests a focus on projects across the entire crypto industry, including Bitcoin and decentralized AI.
