iPhone 17 Pro's Sky Blue Color: A Fresh Twist or a Repeat?

New Shade of Blue Possibly Introduced for iPhone 17 Pro, Despite Wide Range of Other Available Colors

Let's spill the tea on this year's iPhone 17 Pro color rumors! MajinBu, a leaker with a spotty, yet accurate, track record, predicts a sky blue hue could make its debut with the new handsets. Now, before you scream "been there, done that," let's take a closer look.

Historically, Apple's Pro line doesn't exactly dance the jive when it comes to color choices. Black, white, gray, and some variants of gold have been the default options, catering more to the corporate niche than the adventurous masses. Only the minions who opt for the ...er, standard iPhone models step out in vibrant hues like Ultramarine, Teal, and Pink.

So, while sky blue might remind you of the recent M4 MacBook Air, it's a breath of fresh air in Apple's conservative color palette. But if the rumors turn out to be true, will this be just another round of the same ol' blue?

Apple's already stepped into the blue ring more than once before. Take the iPhone 13 Pro's Sierra Blue, the iPhone 12 Pro's more inky Pacific Blue, or last year's Blue Titanium. Three shades of blue? We're feeling a little déjà vu!

Gizmodo's staff, including its former writer Alex Cranz, have thrown in their two cents. They're clamoring for more vibrant colors, like banana yellow (reminding us of the iPhone 14/14 Plus) and a return of the alpine green. I'm giving them a standing ovation—and demanding a bold, new shade of the coral and lime green seen on the iPhone 5C. Or how about some red, darling? Apple's red iPhones have graced our presence in PRODUCT(RED) collaborations, but it's been a hot minute since we've seen a new offering—the last one being the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus back in 2022. Now, the last PRODUCT(RED) iPhone SE was shelved with the release of the iPhone 16e earlier this year.

Is it too much to ask for Apple to pull out all the stops and surprise us with an thrilling new color for iPhone 17 Pro Max and Pro? Well, if the sky blue variant does indeed come to pass, the fans that appreciate this classic shade can rejoice. But let's hope Apple embraces some new hues too, shall we? There's no denying—the tech world is thirsty for something bold and fresh from Apple. Maybe we just need a friendly push to find Apple's "courage" and point it in Tim Cook's direction.
