NHAI's Ambitious 2026 Plans: Rs 35,000-40,000 Crore from Asset Monetisation, QR Code Signboards for Commuters

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has ambitious plans for the upcoming fiscal year. It projects to generate Rs 35,000-40,000 crore through the monetisation of identified road assets, exceeding the FY2026 budgeted target of Rs 30,000 crore.

NHAI is also enhancing highway infrastructure with the installation of Quick Response (QR) Code signboards. These signboards will offer commuters details about nearby facilities such as hospitals, petrol pumps, toilets, police stations, restaurants, and vehicle service stations/e-charging stations. They will be strategically placed near wayside amenities, rest areas, toll plazas, truck lay-byes, highway start/end points, and signages for commuter convenience.

The QR codes will provide project-specific information and emergency helpline numbers, ensuring travellers have easy access to crucial details. However, specific information about the institutions installing these boards, the details provided by the QR codes, and their planned monetisation in 2026 is currently unavailable.

NHAI's FY26 revenue projections have surpassed the budgeted target, with a significant portion expected from the monetisation of road assets. The installation of QR Code signboards along national highways is set to improve commuter experience and safety, with details about nearby facilities and emergency helplines at their fingertips.
