Nio Onvo Initiates Offering Smaller 60-kWh Battery Pack Option for L90 Users

Onvo, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has expanded the battery options for its flagship L90 electric SUV by introducing a new 60-kWh battery pack. This development comes in response to customer demand for more affordable and smaller capacity batteries.

Key Differences between Battery Packs

The L90 currently comes standard with an 85-kWh battery pack, offering a longer driving range and a recommended better experience for a large SUV. This pack supports a CLTC range of about 570 to 605 kilometers depending on the motor configuration.

Onvo's new 60-kWh battery pack is aimed at urban commuters prioritizing cost savings and flexibility. The smaller pack is only available through the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental plan, not as a purchase option.

Here's a comparison of the features and costs associated with each battery pack:

| Feature | 85-kWh Battery Pack | 60-kWh Battery Pack | |---------------------------|------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| | Availability | Standard on L90, purchase available| Rental only via BaaS, no direct purchase| | Target Usage | Longer-range, better for large SUV | Urban commuting, cost-focused users | | Monthly Rental Cost (BaaS) | RMB 899 ($125) | RMB 599 ($83), 33.37% cheaper | | Range (CLTC) | 570-605 km | Lower range, exact figure not specified | | Battery Swap Network | Fully supported (3,400+ stations) | Fully supported |

Battery Pack Upgrades and Downgrades under BaaS

Customers who initially choose the 60-kWh battery pack can upgrade to the 85-kWh battery pack later, providing flexibility to adapt to changing needs. Conversely, customers who start with the 85-kWh battery pack can downgrade to the 60-kWh battery pack rental to reduce monthly costs if they find the larger capacity unnecessary.

To select the 60-kWh battery, customers need to place their vehicle order with the standard 85-kWh battery and then contact sales representatives to switch to the smaller battery rental option since the 60-kWh is not listed in the regular configurator.

Pricing and Availability

Under the BaaS plan, the starting price for the L90 is RMB 179,800, with consumers required to pay a monthly battery rental fee. The monthly rental for the 60-kWh battery pack under the BaaS plan is RMB 599.

Onvo encourages customers with daily urban commuting needs and occasional long-distance travel to consider the 60-kWh battery pack option. Sharing services and reward programs for battery packs vary by region and time period.

Delivery and Service Fees

The L90 electric SUV was officially launched on July 31 and deliveries began on August 1. If customers choose the permanent upgrade, they will need to pay a service fee of RMB 1 yuan if they upgrade within one year of delivery. Nio Inc will not need to refund customers for the permanent downgrade service.

Onvo has introduced a smaller 60-kWh battery pack option for its flagship electric SUV L90. However, the company does not plan to offer the 60-kWh battery pack as an option in the L90's configurator.

Nio Onvo aims to deliver over 10,000 L90s in August. This move by Onvo is expected to cater to a wider range of customers, offering them the choice between a larger battery pack for longer range and a smaller battery pack for cost savings.
