OECD Launches AI Policy Observatory for Global Cooperation
The Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) has launched the 'AI Policy Observatory', an online portal designed to support global cooperation in AI governance. This new resource aims to foster the responsible development of trustworthy AI systems worldwide.
The Observatory, similar to previous OECD initiatives under the Going Digital Project, is multidisciplinary and evidence-based. It aims to help countries encourage, nurture, and monitor AI development. The platform hosts a vast amount of data points and serves as a hub for stakeholders to access the OECD's AI-related efforts.
Key features include a live world map tracking AI developments and resources accessible to stakeholders worldwide. It provides practical guidance for implementing the OECD AI Principles, tracks AI-driven policy changes, hosts AI trends and data, and details national AI policies. Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer Lynne Parker, in an interview with Politico, highlighted the importance of global cooperation to avoid conflicting or duplicative standards and market access barriers.
The AI Policy Observatory, launched by the OECD, is a significant step towards global cooperation in AI governance. By providing a wealth of resources and fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships, the Observatory aims to encourage the responsible development of trustworthy AI systems worldwide.
