OM System Launches E-M1 Mark III Astro for Astrophotography Enthusiasts
OM System has launched a new camera, the E-M1 Mark Astro, designed specifically for astrophotography enthusiasts. This camera, initially exclusive to Japan, is now available in Europe and the UK, priced £1,899 / AU$3,199.
The E-M1 Mark Astro boasts several unique features for capturing the night sky. It uses a specialized IR cut filter that enhances the transmittance of Hα rays, resulting in images with a strong reddish cast, perfect for photographing nebulae that emit light from these rays. The camera also offers computational features like Starry Sky AF, allowing for precise autofocusing on stars.
The camera kit includes two new body filters: the OM System BMF-LPC01 Light Pollution Reduction Filter and BMF-SE01 Soft Focus Filter. These filters are not compatible with earlier models like the E-M5 or PEN cameras prior to the E-PL7. Additionally, the E-M1 Mark Astro features High Res Shot and Live Composite modes for enhanced astrophotography capabilities.
While the OM System E-M1 Mark Astro is not yet confirmed for a US release, it has expanded its availability to Europe and the UK. The exact sales start date in the USA remains unconfirmed. This specialized camera offers advanced features for astrophotographers, allowing vivid capture of celestial objects that are difficult to capture with ordinary digital cameras.
