OpenAI Becomes World's Most Valuable Company as AI Boom Drives $500B Data Center Spending
OpenAI has become the world's most valuable company, surpassing SpaceX, after raising $40 billion in March 2025. This brought its valuation to around $300 billion. Meanwhile, AI's global computing footprint is set to reach 200 gigawatts by 2030, equivalent to Brazil's annual electric consumption.
The AI boom is being driven by leading investors such as Calm/Storm Ventures, BMH, HTGF, Genow, and Wingman. They are backing startups with technological depth and market potential in the DACH region. Strategic acquisitions like Arsipa Group acquiring Bloom 2025 are also shaping the landscape. OpenAI's ChatGPT has already served 700 million people, reaching nearly 9 percent of humanity since launch.
AI-related spending is expected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2025 and over $2 trillion in 2026. Feeding AI's computing appetite will cost up to $500 billion annually in global data center investments through 2030. The Stargate project plans $500 billion in Texas data centers by 2029, with $400 billion already secured. OpenAI plans to spend over $100 billion by 2029, with Nvidia announcing a $100 billion investment to help build data centers.
AI investment has reached $470 billion in the United States and $119 billion in China from 2013 to 2024. As AI's global computing footprint continues to grow, so too will the need for significant investment in data centers and infrastructure to support it.
