OpenAI, Samsung, SK Group Form AI Alliance for Stargate Project
President Lee Jae Myung hosted a significant meeting at the presidential office in Seoul, bringing together OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. The gathering focused on strategic cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
The meeting resulted in a landmark collaboration between OpenAI, Samsung Electronics, and SK Group on OpenAI's Stargate AI project. Samsung, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, will provide high-performance, low-power memory chips, contributing up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month. Samsung SDS, the IT subsidiary of Samsung, will develop AI data centers and enterprise AI services. SK Hynix, another major chipmaker, will also contribute advanced chips to the project.
The cooperation extends beyond component supply. The partners aim to build AI infrastructure in South Korea and explore innovative technologies such as floating data centers. These efforts follow a series of meetings involving the key players in 2025, demonstrating a long-term commitment to AI development and innovation.
The meeting at the presidential office in Seoul has paved the way for a strategic alliance between OpenAI, Samsung Electronics, and SK Group. With Samsung's cutting-edge chips and Samsung SDS's AI data centers, along with SK Hynix's contributions, the Stargate AI project is set to receive significant boost.
