Over 20 million Telegram channels have been terminated
Telegram, the popular messaging app, has announced the launch of a new user rating system aimed at reflecting a user's payment reliability and overall activity within its platform's monetization ecosystem. This system primarily takes into account the number of successful transactions made using Telegram Stars, the app's virtual currency.
The new rating system will be displayed as a numeric badge on user profiles, indicating their account level tied to spending activity and successful transactions. Higher levels unlock benefits and features, creating a form of gamification to encourage more interaction and spending on Telegram. The score can decrease if certain points become invalid or pending, ensuring ongoing reliability checks.
This system benefits creators and channel owners by providing a measure of trustworthiness when collaborating or granting special post privileges. It also complements new features like premium gifts and updated bot development tools within Telegram's broader monetization strategy.
In addition to the new rating system, Telegram has been actively combating violations on its platform. On July 3, 2025, over 314,000 channels were blocked due to violations such as spam distribution, fraud, and the spread of unacceptable materials. The highest number of blocks in a single day was recorded on July 27, 2025, when over 402,000 channels and groups were deleted. However, the exact reasons for the large-scale blocks remain undisclosed.
Users will be able to view their account level by clicking on a special icon in the interface. The exact purpose of the rating system is not yet known, but it may indicate a user's purchasing power and grant access to additional features. Increasing the level may be linked to purchases, gifts, or the use of Telegram Stars.
The introduction of this new rating system and the ongoing efforts to combat violations on the platform aim to make Telegram a safer, more dynamic, and monetizable space for its users.
