'Palworld: Feybreak' Garners 200,000 Simultaneous Players, Climbs to Steam's Top 10 Rankings

Palworld's back in action! Palworld's back, and it's still making waves as the third most-played game on Steam with a peak of 2.1 million players at launch. Despite dipping post-launch, it's managed to maintain a steady playerbase.

Over the past few weeks, there's been a remarkable surge in players, with a 796% increase from the game's low points. This has brought the game to its highest player count since its initial launch in March 2024, totaling over 205,000 concurrent players and climbing.

The reason for this recent boost is the introduction of the Feybreak update. Palworld's developers, Pocketpair, showcased this massive expansion at The Game Awards – the place to be for game revealings these days. The update hit the market right before Christmas and has gained significant traction on its first post-holiday weekend.

Feybreak features a whopping 23 new Pals, six times the size of the previous added island, complete with new buildings, gear, abilities, and boss fights to conquer. There's even a 'Predator Pals' mode, a randomized Pal spawn system, and a hardcore permadeath mode for those looking for a serious challenge.

Lately, there's been a bit of controversy involving Palworld and Nintendo. Nintendo filed a patent infringement lawsuit, claiming the game features elements similar to capturing monsters with thrown balls, which is a feature Nintendo claims as their own intellectual property. In response, Palworld revamped its Pal Spheres, introducing 'modules' for modified catching methods that should (theoretically) be free of Nintendo's patents.

Despite being labeled as a "non-live" game by its creators, many still view live games as those that receive regular updates. In Palworld's case, that primarily refers to significant expansions, making this the second major one since its release.

This recent player surge suggests that Palworld remains incredibly popular, even if it won't recover to those unfathomable launch numbers ever again. With the Feybreak update, the game has surpassed Apex Legends and Team Fortress 2's player counts and only trails behind Marvel Rivals.

If Palworld continues to roll out new, substantial updates, introducing new regions and characters, it could resemble a Genshin Impact without the gacha elements, sharing some common ground with the game's structure instead of the periodic Pokemon installments. This might indicate a successful long-term run for the game.
