Pebble Time 2 has been unveiled, sparking my desire for acquisition
The much-anticipated Pebble Time 2 smartwatch has been officially unveiled, boasting a refined design and a host of new features aimed at providing a premium user experience.
At its core, the Pebble Time 2 sports a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper touchscreen display, encased in minimal bezels and protected by a flat hardened glass lens for minimal reflections. The watch body and front/back are crafted from 316 stainless steel, giving it a durable and premium feel, while the quick-release 22mm standard watch strap ensures easy customisation.
Weighing around 32.5 grams without the strap and about 48 grams with it, the Pebble Time 2 is a lightweight yet robust device. Its impressive 30-day estimated battery life sets it apart from many competitors, making it an ideal companion for those seeking a long-lasting wearable.
The Pebble Time 2 is packed with features designed to cater to fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious users. A built-in heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, and a compass sensor are all included, along with a linear actuator motor for vibration alerts. A multicolour RGB LED backlight allows the user to control the backlight colour, enabling the temperature to change throughout the day.
In terms of connectivity, the Pebble Time 2 runs on PebbleOS, an open-source operating system, and supports over 10,000 watchfaces and apps. It pairs with smartphones via Bluetooth for notifications, music control, and internet connectivity.
The Pebble Time 2 is water-resistant to an IPX8 standard (final rating to be confirmed) and features a screw-mounted back cover. A polycarbonate layer in its build allows the radios to work properly.
The Pebble Time 2 is now available for pre-order at US$225 / £165 (approx. €191 / AU$343). Details about the watch were revealed by the company's founder Eric Migicovsky on his blog Tick Talk. Since its initial announcement in March, more details about the Pebble Time 2 have been unveiled, including the use of a flat glass face for the front panel and the inclusion of a speaker. The watch will come in four options at launch, although the exact colours have not been finalised yet.
With its premium build, long battery life, and health/fitness tracking capabilities, the Pebble Time 2 represents a significant update from earlier Pebble models.
