Photoshop Users, Prepare for 2024: Upgrade Your Visual Effects with Optics 2024 Extension
Adobe has announced the latest update to its Optics plugin, Optics 2024, bringing a host of new features to Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and as a standalone application. The update is now available for a free trial.
New Features in Optics 2024
Optics 2024 introduces several exciting enhancements, including Lens Blur improvements in Lightroom. The new stylistic options include the Oval (Anamorphic) bokeh shape and a Cat-Eye slider for crescent-shape effects.
The update also offers an improved Generative Remove tool, providing better selection and object detection for easier and more precise removal of unwanted objects, even on complex backgrounds.
Quick Actions enhancements introduce new dynamic presets for selective photo enhancements, like skin smoothing and simulating golden hour skies, with improved intelligence to detect people and faces.
Content Credentials (Early Access) allow photographers to attach their name, social media handle, and edit history as a digital signature to exported JPEGs, supporting Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative.
Sharing improvements include a refreshed link viewing interface, combined like and comment feeds, and easier photo downloads on mobile devices.
New camera and lens support for more devices, including profiles for Nikon, Samsung, and SIGMA lenses, enhance lens correction features.
Performance Upgrades
In addition to these features, Adobe has also introduced GPU acceleration for preview generation in Lightroom Classic 14.5 and Desktop 8.5, significantly speeding up workflow on high-end graphics cards.
Optics 2024: What's Not Included
While Optics 2024 does not include over 100 additional presets, it does offer a selection of new effects, such as Particle Illusion masking, beauty retouching, chromatic aberration, digital damage, glows, grunge, lens flares, light leaks, and more.
However, some popular features from third-party plugins like Sapphire's S_PrismLens, S_UltraGrain, Magic Sharp, and 5 curated filters from Continuum, are not included in the Optics 2024 update.
