Plug-in Hybrid Skoda Kodiaq tops sales chart, boasting twice the power of a conventional heart.

"Skoda Introduces Plug-in Hybrid Version of Kodiaq SUV"

The Czech automaker, Skoda, has launched a new edition of its best-selling SUV, the Kodiaq, equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This dual-engine vehicle promises a range of more than 100 kilometers on electric power alone.

Dimensions and Competition

Measuring 4.76 meters in length, the new Skoda Kodiaq is the largest SUV in the Skoda universe. It competes in the premium mid-size class, yet it is 10 centimeters shorter than the fully electric Enyaq, which is priced approximately €400 more. The Kodiaq is also more affordable due to its plug-in hybrid technology.

Charging Capabilities

The Kodiaq's plug-in hybrid system benefits from a large 25.7 kWh battery, making it possible to travel over 100 kilometers without using the conventional combustion engine. This technology is shared with the luxurious Superb sedan, another long-model Skoda.

Growing Interest

Although the predecessor initially attracted only a handful of buyers, the new 2025 edition could be a breakthrough. Professionals with regular weekday commutes are showing interest in the plug-in hybrid Kodiaq, as it can be fully charged at home within 2.5 hours or at a 50 kW fast charger in just 25 minutes.

Performance

The Kodiaq's total power corresponds to that of a powerful all-wheel petrol engine, offering brisk acceleration when needed. The hybrid model can reach speeds of up to 210 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds with both engines working in unison.

Design and Interior Changes

The Kodiaq's design has been refreshed, featuring more aggressive details and larger headlight eyes with full LED matrix. Inside, the central attraction is a 12.9-inch monitor for navigation, apps, and touchscreen operation. Additional manual controls for climate and heating are provided via three rotary switches with LED interiors.

Skoda's Emphasis on Combined Control Elements

Chief Designer Oliver Stefani stated, "The combination of manual and digital control elements meets the wishes of many customers and is as intuitive as it is comfortable." A 10.25-inch display located behind the steering wheel provides essential driving data, despite a clear dividing line between the two screens.

Stability and Safety

Reviewers have praised the Kodiaq for its smoothness, with expert drivers appreciating its responsive and precise steering, the flawless brakes, and excellent stability during fast cornering. The top-tier diesel engine, also equipped with all-wheel drive, offers similar performance.

New RS Variant

In addition to the Kodiaq Plug-in Hybrid, Skoda has introduced a new RS variant. Priced competitively without astronomical costs, the RS model includes numerous gadgets and almost all known assistance systems. A remote control app for smartphones allows the Kodiaq to be maneuvered into tight parking spots after the driver has exited.

Specifications and Competition

  • Powertrain: The Kodiaq Plug-in Hybrid features a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 204 PS (150 kW).
  • Electric Range: Official battery range is up to 76 miles (122 km) in European WLTP testing.
  • Performance: Offers quick acceleration and is described as "sprightly." Official 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) times for similar models are quoted at 8.1 to 8.4 seconds.

  • Transmission: An automatic transmission is included.
