Polestar expands its retail presence across Australia
Polestar, the electric performance car brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Geely, has been gradually expanding its retail presence in Australia. As of the start of this year, the company has added five new locations to its network, bringing the total to 12 Polestar Spaces around the country.
The expansion operations have included both permanent Polestar Spaces and pop-up retail locations in premium shopping districts to widen visibility. Polestar's focus is on a direct-to-consumer model, with initial entry into the Australian market starting around 2021-2022. Flagship locations were established in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne.
One of the new locations is a test drive and handover centre in Canberra, while a new retail presence can be found in Launceston. Other new additions include Polestar Spaces in Sydney's iconic Lower North Shore, and the relocation of the Rushcutters Bay location from its original Alexandria Space.
In addition, Polestar has upgraded its Perth location to a full Polestar Space experience, and an expanded network of 19 Polestar Service Points has been rolled out across the country to manage maintenance and accessories. The company launched its first EV, the electric fastback Polestar 2, in Australia in early 2022.
Polestar's goal is to increase its retail spaces globally by 75 percent before the end of 2026. Scott Maynard, managing director of Polestar Australia, stated that the company intends to maintain its momentum in Australia through the second half of 2025.
