In a significant move, Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communications companies, is expanding its mobile network in the Görlitz district. The expansion aims to enhance mobile communication as a vital quality of life factor and a crucial infrastructure for the local economy and jobs, as stated by Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, Tanja Richter.
The expansion plans include the installation of additional antennas at six existing sites in Boxberg/O.L., Zittau, Waldhufen, and Görlitz. These new antennas support the latest variants of emergency call technology (AML) and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast, ensuring a safer and more connected community.
Currently, Vodafone operates 133 mobile communication stations in the district, all equipped with LTE mobile broadband technology. In the next phase of expansion, Vodafone plans to upgrade 37 more stations to 5G, with the radio site in Kodersdorf being one of them. This upgrade will help bridge gaps in mobile broadband coverage and provide faster and more reliable services to residents and guests.
Two new 5G sites will be commissioned in Görlitz within the next twelve months, with the recent commissioning of a new station in Kodersdorf being a testament to Vodafone's commitment to its network expansion. This new station connects approximately 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile data highway for the first time.
In addition to these expansions, Vodafone is also focusing on sustainability. The company aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040. Currently, Vodafone's power demand is covered 100% by renewable energies.
Vodafone's machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business is operational on more than 97% of German territory, further solidifying its position as a key player in the communications industry. The company also reaches two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable fiber-optic network.
It's worth noting that while there are no verified information about Vodafone’s mobile network expansion plans in the Görlitz district by mid-2026 from the current search results, nine more mobile communication construction projects are planned in the district by the same period.
The emergency call technology (AML) automatically transmits the location of the caller to the emergency control center during an emergency call, ensuring swift and effective emergency response. The disaster warning system Cell Broadcast warns the surrounding population via smartphone of dangerous situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods, enhancing public safety.
With these expansions and upgrades, Vodafone continues to strengthen its network, ensuring better connectivity and faster services for its customers in the Görlitz district.
