Ray-Ban's Third Generation Meta Smart Glasses: Current Insights and Updates
The tech world is abuzz with excitement as Ray-Ban, in partnership with Meta, is set to unveil the next generation of their smart glasses – the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Gen 3. These innovative glasses are expected to hit the market later this year or early 2026, following hot on the heels of the Meta Connect 2025 event in mid-September where they will be officially unveiled.
Design and Prescription Lenses
The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Gen 3 will be available in two main styles: "Aperol" for sunglasses and "Bellini" for those requiring prescription lenses. This move aims to address the limitations of the current models in fitting prescription lenses properly. The design of the glasses will differ from previous generations, yet they will bear a resemblance to current Ray-Ban sunglass styles.
Expected Features
The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Gen 3 are expected to come equipped with the next-generation Meta AI assistant, which will run for hours, a significant improvement from the current 30-minute limit. This upgrade will enable continuous live recording and extended use of AI features, such as recognizing and remembering faces and objects for practical tasks like recalling names or locating items.
In addition, enhanced AI capabilities will allow for real-time object recognition and scene understanding. The glasses may also feature a camera and AI functionality, although specific camera specs have not been detailed as of yet.
Battery Life and AI Assistant
A significant upgrade in battery life is anticipated, potentially surpassing the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, thanks to the latest Qualcomm AR1+ Gen 1 chipset. The new Meta AI assistant will enable continuous live recording and extended use of AI features like recognizing and remembering faces and objects for practical tasks.
Release Date and Price
While there is no official release date announced, leaks and reports suggest that the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Gen 3 are imminent or in late development stages with rising rumors from mid-2025. As for the price, it has not been officially disclosed or leaked. However, past Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have generally been priced in a premium range typical of designer smart glasses, so this new generation is expected to stay within a similar premium bracket, though precise figures are not available.
Future Prospects
It remains to be seen if Meta will use the Ray-Ban branding for Meta Hypernova or another brand. Regardless, the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Gen 3 are poised to go head-to-head with Android XR smart glasses, offering users dual designs for sunglasses and prescription glasses, hours-long AI operation with face recognition, and improved battery life. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the official unveiling at Meta Connect 2025!
