Retail giant Carrefour introduces intelligent shopping carts in Romania for the first time.

On July 10, Carrefour made history in Romania by introducing the first smart shopping cart system in a hypermarket located in Corbeanca, a town north of Bucharest. This innovative technology, known as the Smart Cart, is designed to optimize the shopping experience for customers.

The Smart Cart is more than just a shopping cart. It functions as an integrated shopping assistant, displaying products, showing the value of the shopping basket in real time, and even optimizing the route in the store. To use the Smart Cart, customers must log in to the Act for Good loyalty platform, available in the Carrefour mobile app.

Each scanned item is instantly displayed on the cart screen, along with the price, for increased visibility. The shopping list is created directly on the cart's touchscreen, and the system automatically generates an optimal route through the store, indicating the location of each product. This feature aims to make shopping more efficient and less stressful for customers.

The Smart Cart has a carrying capacity of up to 180 kg and an autonomy of 18 hours, with a charging time of 6 hours. It is compatible with the Bringo and Glovo delivery platforms, extending its integration with Carrefour's omnichannel ecosystem.

Customers can request help through a dedicated button on the Smart Cart, and staff can intervene quickly due to the geolocation function. This feature ensures that assistance is always nearby when needed.

As of the debut, over 3,500 customers have used the Smart Cart, demonstrating growing interest in the system. Fabrice Gratien Besson, Director of Security, Quality, and Checkouts at Carrefour Romania, believes this is the beginning of an important transformation in which technology and the in-store experience work together.

The Smart Cart is currently available exclusively in the Corbeanca hypermarket in Romania. At the end of the shopping trip, the Smart Cart generates a barcode which is quickly scanned at the checkout for quick payment.

With the introduction of the Smart Cart, Carrefour continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and customer service in Romania. The Smart Cart is not just a shopping cart; it's a revolution in the shopping experience.
