Meyers Manx Unveils Modern Dune Buggy Lineup at The Quail 2021
Meyers Manx, the iconic dune buggy manufacturer, has revealed its latest offerings at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2021, marking a blend of modern engineering and classic spirit. The event, held during Monterey Car Week, served as a remarkable stage for showcasing the full scope of Meyers Manx's vision.
Among the key new models and updates unveiled are the Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric Vehicle (EV), the Resorter Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), and the forthcoming high-performance LFG edition in collaboration with Tuthill Garage.
The Meyers Manx 2.0 EV is a modern reimagining of the iconic dune buggy, now powered by an electric motor. Designed for sustainable off-road adventure, it boasts bi-directional charging capabilities, making it a powerbank for outdoor activities. This EV has been tested in Baja and tuned for a lighter environmental footprint.
The Resorter NEV, an updated version of the four-seater buggy, is tailored for modern community use. It emphasizes local adventure with a comfortable rear bench and easy access, positioning itself not as a crossover but as a distinctive conversation starter for casual outings.
The LFG edition, scheduled for production in 2026, is a high-performance off-road vehicle powered by a Porsche-sourced 4.0L flat-six engine. With a six-speed sequential gearbox, all-wheel drive, three differentials, and five-way adjustable dampers, it is designed for extreme off-road conditions, potentially targeting events like the Baja 1000. Only 100 units will be produced, making it a rare, hardcore performance vehicle.
In addition to these models, Meyers Manx has refined engineering and features on both the 2.0 EV and the Resorter NEV, with the Tarmac Touring Edition featuring a proprietary digital instrument panel that brings a modern edge to a piece of history. The company has also remastered its four-seat Resorter kit, making it easier for skilled home builders to assemble.
The Meyers Manx Tarmac Touring Edition is an all-new aviation-inspired remastered two-seat buggy, powered by Radial Motion's 2.0-liter three-cylinder radial engine. Renowned for its exceptional engineering and unique exhaust note, this model pays homage to the engines that once connected continents. Only six of the Radial Motion-powered Tarmac Touring Edition will be produced.
Key engineering targets have been set for both the Meyers Manx 2.0 EV and Resorter NEV regarding main technical attributes like driving performance, range and power, quality, reliability, safety, and ergonomics. The Remastered Resorter kits will be available to order this fall, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
The Quail Lodge & Golf Club served as the venue for Meyers Manx to celebrate its 60th anniversary and showcase its latest product advancements. The company is presenting its updated lineup of vehicles at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, a premier event during Monterey Car Week.
As Meyers Manx moves closer to production, Freeman Thomas, the vice chairman, mentioned that the design intent of both original concepts is being approached. The LFG edition stands out as a radical modern reinterpretation, marrying racing technology with dune buggy tradition, while the EV and Resorter NEV underscore the company’s commitment to sustainable and community-friendly vehicles.
