Revamped Nissan Micra emerges as an electric hatchback, adopting SUV-inspired styling.

The Nissan Micra, a compact hatchback with a rich history, is set to make a comeback in Europe by late 2025. This time, the Micra has been revived as a fully electric vehicle, boasting a bold new look and a host of innovative features.

Styled by Nissan Design Europe in London, the new Micra sports a definite SUV-inspired edge, setting it apart from its predecessors. The front end features circular LED headlights and body-colored inserts, while the rear end, equipped with a multi-link design, promises best-in-class ride and handling.

The Micra's dimensions are compact yet spacious, with a length of under four meters and a wheelbase of 2.54 meters. The boot space offers 326 liters, providing ample room for daily essentials.

When it comes to power, the Micra offers two powertrains: a 90kW motor and 40kWh battery (308km WLTP range), and a more powerful 110kW motor with a 52kWh battery (408km WLTP range). Both powertrains feature advanced technology, including heat pumps, thermal battery management, vehicle-to-load tech, and the larger pack supports 100 kW DC fast charging, allowing for 15% to 80% charge in half an hour.

The new Micra also offers a variety of design choices. Buyers can opt for two-tone paint options, including grey or black roofs, and choose from 14 paint combinations. The Micra will also roll on 18-inch wheels and will feature an LED "wink" animation every time it is locked or unlocked, adding a touch of elegance to its design.

The cabin of the new Micra is as tech-savvy as its powertrain. It features dual 10.1-inch displays and a subtle Mount Fuji embossing between the seats, creating a modern and sophisticated interior.

While the new Micra shares a platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech, it is important to note that it does not copy the design of the Renault 5 E-Tech. The development of the new electric Nissan Micra is the work of Nissan, with significant technical support and platform sharing from its alliance partner Renault.

The pricing for the new Nissan Micra may be above the Renault 5's starting point of €25,000 (NZ$47,800), positioning the Micra as the more premium pick in the compact electric hatchback market.

As the new Nissan Micra gears up for its European debut, it promises to deliver a unique blend of style, performance, and technology, making it an exciting addition to the electric vehicle landscape.
