Rotterdam Artist Illuminates Apple Park with Prismatic Installations
Rotterdam-based artist and designer Sabine Marcelis has brought a vibrant, interactive touch to Apple Park's Observatory. Her luminous installations, featuring prismatic polyester resin, frosted glass, and clear acrylic, create a captivating blend of architecture, technology, and art.
Marcelis' work at The Observatory includes pieces like 'Soap Columns' and 'Mini Lenses', which scatter color and shift with movement. Each final color was meticulously reviewed for accuracy using the iPhone's imaging sensor, ensuring a harmonious blend with Apple's new product colors such as Cosmic Orange, Mist Blue, and Lavender.
Her practice, which combines material experimentation with precise finesse, mirrors Apple's pursuit of a seamless user experience. This is evident in her use of a seamless pipeline between iOS- and macOS-powered devices for collaborative efficiency. One of her sculptures, the Sundial, is permanently installed at Apple Park, serving as both a prismatic sundial and a waypoint marker.
Sabine Marcelis' interactive tableaus at The Observatory not only enhance the Apple campus experience but also showcase her unique artistic vision. With full autonomy granted by Apple's Industrial Design team, Marcelis has created a luminous addition to the space, reflecting Apple's commitment to innovation and design.
