Ruhr Region's Photovoltaic Expansion Surges in 2024, Led by Hamm
The Ruhr region has witnessed a remarkable surge in photovoltaic expansion in 2024. With an additional 428 megawatts installed, the region saw a 13% increase from the previous year. Notably, Hamm has emerged as a leader in this growth.
Hamm has taken the second spot in terms of newly installed photovoltaic capacity in 2024, with an impressive 28,950 kilowatt-peak. The city's commitment to solar power is further evident in the installation of 1,017 new balcony PV systems. This dedication has led Hamm to have the largest installed photovoltaic capacity in the Ruhr region in 2024, with a total of 100,982 kilowatt-peak.
The growth in photovoltaics in the Ruhr region is not limited to Hamm alone. The number of plug-and-play solar systems in the region increased by 127% to 40,000 in 2024. The number of rooftop solar systems also grew significantly, increasing by 22,000 to 118,000, with a total capacity of over 1,800 megawatts.
The Ruhr region's commitment to renewable energy is evident in the record-breaking photovoltaic expansion in 2024. Hamm's leadership in this area, with the second largest share of photovoltaic system expansion and the largest installed capacity, is commendable. The KlimaAgentur Hamm continues to support this growth by offering initial consultations for those interested in installing rooftop or balcony PV systems.
